Clinical SupervisionIt is a requirement of both the BACP and the UKCP that all practicing Counsellors and Psychotherapist incorporate regular supervision into their clinical practice.
Working under supervision means that a practictioner uses the services of another qualified practictioner to review their work with clients. The supervisor does not take on a managerial role their purpose is to consult.
Supervision is necessary to protect clients and to improve the ability of therapists to provide value to their clients. The practice of supervision means that details provided by clients are shared with someone other than the therapist. However overall client confidentaility is still upheld as the individual’s identifying information i.e the client’s full name is not disclosed and information shared during supervision sessions is protected under a contract of confidentiality and normally this may not be shared outside of the supervision session.
